عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى  أَن جَاءهُ الْأَعْمَى

(1

সে* ভ্রকুঞ্চিত করল এবং মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিল।

(The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away,

عَبَسَ

সে ভ্রুকুঞ্চিত করল

He frowned

وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

ও (মুখ ফিরালো) অনাগ্রহ দেখালো

and turned away

أَن جَاءهُ الْأَعْمَى

(2

কারণ তার কাছে অন্ধ লোকটি* আগমন করেছিল।

Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. ’Abdullâh bin Umm-Maktûm, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs).

أَن

(এ জন্যে) যে

Because

جَآءَهُ

তার (কাছে) এসেছে

came to him

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

এক অন্ধ

the blind man

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّى

(3

আর কিসে তোমাকে জানাবে যে, সে হয়ত পরিশুদ্ধ হত।

But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)?

وَمَا

এবং কিসে

But what

يُدْرِيكَ

তোমাকে জানাবে

would make you know

لَعَلَّهُۥ

সে হয়তো

that he might

يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

পরিশুদ্ধ হতো

purify himself

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى

(4

অথবা উপদেশ গ্রহণ করত, ফলে সে উপদেশ তার উপকারে আসত।

Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him?

أَوْ

বা

Or

يَذَّكَّرُ

উপদেশ গ্রহণ করতো

be reminded

فَتَنفَعَهُ

তাকে অতঃপর উপকার দিত

so would benefit him

ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ

উপদেশ

the reminder?

أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى

(5

আর যে বেপরোয়া হয়েছে,

As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient,

أَمَّا

পক্ষান্তরে

As for

مَنِ

যে

(him) who

ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ

বেপরোয়া হলো (উন্নাসিকতা দেখালো)

considers himself free from need

فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّى

(6

তুমি তার প্রতি মনোযোগ দিচ্ছ।

To him you attend;

فَأَنتَ

অথচ তুমি

So you

لَهُۥ

তার জন্যে

to him

تَصَدَّىٰ

মনযোগ দিচ্ছো

give attention

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّى

(7

অথচ সে পরিশুদ্ধ না হলে তোমার কোন দায়িত্ব বর্তাবে না।

What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allâh).

وَمَا

কিন্তু নাই

And not

عَلَيْكَ

তোমার উপর (দায়িত্ব)

upon you

أَلَّا

যদি না

that not

يَزَّكَّىٰ

সে পরিশুদ্ধ হয়

he purifies himself

وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءكَ يَسْعَى

(8

পক্ষান্তরে যে তোমার কাছে ছুটে আসল,

But as to him who came to you running.

وَأَمَّا

আর অন্যপক্ষে

But as for

مَن

যে

(he) who

جَآءَكَ

তোমার কাছে আসল

came to you

يَسْعَىٰ

দৌড়ে

striving

وَهُوَ يَخْشَى

(9

আর সে ভয়ও করে,

And is afraid (of Allâh and His Punishment),

وَهُوَ

এবং সে

While he

يَخْشَىٰ

ভয় করে

fears

فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّى

(10

অথচ তুমি তার প্রতি উদাসীন হলে।

Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another,

فَأَنتَ

অথচ তুমি

But you

عَنْهُ

তার থেকে

from him

تَلَهَّىٰ

অনীহা প্রকাশ করছ

(are) distracted

كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ

(11

কখনো নয়, নিশ্চয় এটা উপদেশ বাণী।

Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Qur’ân) are an admonition,

كَلَّآ

কখনও না

Nay!

إِنَّهَا

নিশ্চয়ই তা

Indeed it

تَذْكِرَةٌ

উপদেশ

(is) a reminder

فَمَن شَاء ذَكَرَهُ

(12

কাজেই যে ইচ্ছা করবে, সে তা স্মরণ রাখবে।

So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it.

فَمَن

অতএব যে

So whosoever

شَآءَ

চায়

wills

ذَكَرَهُۥ

(তা স্মরণ করবে) তা গ্রহণ করবে

may remember it

فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ

(13

এটা আছে সম্মানিত সহীফাসমূহে।

(It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).

সহিফাসমূহের

sheets

مُّكَرَّمَةٍ

(যা) সম্মানিত

honored

مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ

(14

সমুন্নত, পবিত্র,

Exalted (in dignity), purified,

مَّرْفُوعَةٍ

উচ্চ মর্যাদাসম্পন্ন

Exalted

مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ

পবিত্র

purified

بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ

(15

লেখকদের হাতে,

In the hands of scribes (angels).

بِأَيْدِى

হাতে

In (the) hands

سَفَرَةٍ

দূতদের

(of) scribes

كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ

(16

যারা মহাসম্মানিত, অনুগত।

Honourable and obedient.

قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ

(17

মানুষ ধ্বংস হোক, সে কতইনা অকৃতজ্ঞ!

Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is!

ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ

মানুষ

the man

مَآ

কতই না

how

مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ

(18

তিনি তাকে কোন বস্তু থেকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন?

From what thing did He create him?

أَىِّ

কোন

what

شَىْءٍ

বস্তু

thing

مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ

(19

শুক্র বিন্দু থেকে তিনি তাকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন। অতঃপর তাকে সুগঠিত করেছেন।

From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion;

نُّطْفَةٍ

শুক্র ফোঁটা

a sperm drop

خَلَقَهُۥ

তিনি তাকে সৃষ্টি করেছেন

He created him

ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ

(20

তারপর তিনি তার পথ সহজ করে দিয়েছেন।

Then He makes the Path easy for him;

ٱلسَّبِيلَ

পথ

the way

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ

(21

তারপর তিনি তাকে মৃত্যু দেন এবং তাকে কবরস্থ করেন।

Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave;

أَمَاتَهُۥ

তাকে মৃত্যু দেন

He causes him to die

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاء أَنشَرَهُ

(22

তারপর যখন তিনি ইচ্ছা করবেন, তাকে পুনর্জীবিত করবেন।

Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again).

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ

(23

কখনো নয়, তিনি তাকে যে আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন, সে এখনো তা পূর্ণ করেনি।

Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him.

فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ

(24

কাজেই মানুষ তার খাদ্যের প্রতি লক্ষ্য করুক।

Then let man look at his food,

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاء صَبًّا

(25

নিশ্চয় আমি প্রচুর পরিমাণে পানি বর্ষণ করি।

That We pour forth water in abundance,

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا

(26

তারপর যমীনকে যথাযথভাবে বিদীর্ণ করি।

And We split the earth in clefts,

شَقَقْنَا

আমরা বিদীর্ণ করেছি

We cleaved

ٱلْأَرْضَ

মাটিকে

the earth

فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا

(27

অতঃপর তাতে আমি উৎপন্ন করি শস্য,

And We cause therein the grain to grow,

فِيهَا

তার মধ্যে

therein

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا

(28

আঙ্গুর ও শাক-সবজি,

And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle),

وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا

(29

যায়তূন ও খেজুর বন,

And olives and date-palms,

وَنَخْلًا

ও খেজুর

and date-palms

وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا

(30

ঘনবৃক্ষ শোভিত বাগ-বাগিচা,

And gardens, dense with many trees,

وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا

(31

ফল এবং গবাদির খাদ্য,

And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.),

مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ

(32

তোমাদের ও তোমাদের চতুষ্পদ জন্তুগুলোর জীবনোপকরণস্বরূপ।

(To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle.

فَإِذَا جَاءتِ الصَّاخَّةُ

(33

অতঃপর যখন বিকট আওয়াজ* আসবে,

Then, when there comes As-Sâkhkhah (the Day of Resurrection’s second blowing of Trumpet),

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ

(34

সেদিন মানুষ পালিয়ে যাবে তার ভাই থেকে,

That Day shall a man flee from his brother,

وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ

(35

তার মা ও তার বাবা থেকে,

And from his mother and his father,

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ

(36

তার স্ত্রী ও তার সন্তান-সন্ততি থেকে।

And from his wife and his children.

لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ

(37

সেদিন তাদের প্রত্যেকেরই একটি গুরুতর অবস্থা থাকবে, যা তাকে ব্যতিব্যস্ত করে রাখবে।

Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ

(38

সেদিন কিছু কিছু চেহারা উজ্জ্বল হবে।

Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islâmic Monotheism).

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ

(39

সহাস্য, প্রফুল্ল।

Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise).

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ

(40

আর কিছু কিছু চেহারার উপর সেদিন থাকবে মলিনতা।

And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained;

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ

(41

কালিমা সেগুলোকে আচ্ছন্ন করবে।

Darkness will cover them,

أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ

(42

তারাই কাফির, পাপাচারী।

Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers).

هُمُ

তারাই (যারা)

[they]

ٱلْكَفَرَةُ

কাফের

(are) the disbelievers

ٱلْفَجَرَةُ

পাপী

the wicked ones
